Made in NH– Authors: Cher Griffin

By Amy Ray

This is the forth in a series of ten-question interviews of authors who represented NHWP at the Made in New Hampshire Expo booth.

Cher Griffin has written two books, Ritzforg 127 and Captain Courageous that will appeal to readers who love horses and who-done-its.

Amy Ray: What inspired you to become a writer?

Cher Griffin: My sister was always writing fantasy stuff and both of us were avid readers, so I decided to put that to good use.

AR: What is the most challenging aspect of writing for you?

CG: Making the time available.

AR: There are many typewriter fans here at the Writers’ Project. How do you write: computer, typewriter, longhand, dictation…?

CG: Computer for sure!

AR: Plotter or Pantser? (Do you plot ahead of time or fly by the seat of your pants?)

CG: Pantser.

AR: What was your path to publication: agent with traditional publisher, small press, indie publishing or self-publishing?

CG: Self-publishing.

AR: How long did it take you to get from your initial inspiration to the finished product?

CG: One year.

AR: How do you market your books?

CG: Book signings, web site, on my own e-commerce site, Facebook, Good Reads, in my mobile Emporium that travels to horse shows.

AR: Do you have a favorite motivational saying?

CG: Stop futzing around and DO IT!

AR: Are you working on a new writing project?

CG: Yes, the third book in the series.

AR: What book are you reading now?

CG: I use my Nook and get free stuff or books under $5 for daily reads, but I like good mysteries and chew through them so fast I don’t remember the titles. Evanovich, Robb, Patterson are some in the wings for me to read.

Amy Ray’s book, Dangerous Denial, is a Silver Falchion nominee in the category of Best First Novel: Thriller/Mystery. Ray also has a short story in the New Hampshire Pulp Fiction anthology, Love Free or Die. She lives on the seacoast and is a longtime member of NHWP.
